Understanding Disability Awards 2024

The 2024 Understanding Disability Awards event was a day of celebration! Nearly 200 people attended, ranging from unpaid carers to service providers. Awards were presented by the Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan & the Lord Mayor of Cardiff, while the Chair of the Understanding Disabilities Group Nick Davies lead us through the presentation.

We celebrated individuals and organisations who have been nominated by the public, to be recognised for the time and energy they have devoted to improving the lives of people with disabilities and their families. This years winners included:

- Stacie Leek - founder of the Umbrella support group for carers

- Ellie Andrews - founder of the Different Abilities support group on Facebook

- Ysgol St Curig

- LIFE - activities group for disabled people and their families

- Voices Advocad - group promoting advocacy for unpaid carers

- Chloe McBratney - founder of the CCFC Foundation

- Carys Proffitt - Community Learning Disability nurse

- Chloe Bushett - volunteer at Cwtch play group

- Pentyrch Rangers - members of a Guides group

- Vale of Glamorgan Healthy Living Team

- Cardiff Support Planning Service

- Norbert Flynn - former chair of the Parents Federation

- Sunday Circle - church group supporting carers

- Dr Dawn Cavanagh - founder of Stolen Lives movement
