Financial help and assistance services available

The Riverside Advice Service can offer a wide range of free services to ensure you maximise your income:

 

Welfare Benefits Advice – Advice and assistance in completing benefit application forms, including request for mandatory reconsideration, appeal and upper tribunal advice and assistance, overpayment of benefits advice and appeals. This service includes a benefit check to ensure you are claiming the benefits you are entitled to.   Criteria – mental health condition.

 

Welfare Benefits Upper Tribunal Appeals – Advice and assistance with regards to an Welfare Benefit Tribunal Appeal hearing where you believe there is an error in law in the decision.  Statement of Reasons will be required so that the caseworker may check the decision for an error in law.   Criteria: Must be eligible for Legal Aid, low income, no savings or assets above 8k

 

Debt Advice – Advice, assistance and options to deal with any domestic debt, including debt relief order applications, bankruptcy and payment negotiation with creditor.  Criteria – mental health condition.

 

Grant Application to write off Fuel Debt, to pay for a DRO or Bankruptcy Fee, energy efficient white goods if the existing is broken– Assistance with applying for BGET grant to clear debt or arrears with any fuel provider or grant for energy efficient household item, unpaid funeral debt, debt relief order fee or bankruptcy fee.  Proof of income, meter readings and recent fuel bills are required and if the client has a health condition, supporting letter from GP or supporting organization. Criteria – low income and financial difficulty

 

Legal Aid Housing Advice – Advice and assistance in any of the following issues :

  • You have been served with an eviction notice  (rented property only)
  • Possession of your home (not mortgage)
  • Homelessness (challenging decision made by local authority including suitability of accommodation)
  • Disrepairs which pose a serious risk to health or safety (rented property only)
  • Injunctions under the Protection from Harassment Act 1997 (housing and ASBO matters only)

 

A Legal Aid Housing Advice session is also available every Monday morning between 10 – 1pm at the Advice Hub in the City Centre – if you or your client attend in person, please ask for Marcus Davies of Riverside Advice
